About George and Joy

We both grew up in California. Although we attended different congregations, both of us gradually developed an interest in missions, thanks to various missionaries coming through to report on their various works.

Shortly after we were married, we moved to east Tennessee, where George attended the East Tennessee School of Preaching. After graduation, we worked with congregations in South San Francisco, CA, Pacifica, CA, and Menlo, IA.  In 2007 we moved to Tanzania, where we lived and worked for five years. Upon our return, we moved to Hawesville, Ky, where George served as an evangelist from 2012-2020. In January 2021 George and Joy returned to work in Tanzania.

In addition to our work in Tanzania, we have made numerous short-term mission trips over the years. Either separate or collectively, we have worked in New Zealand, Ukraine, India, Sri Lanka, Australia, Jamaica, Malawi, Iceland, and Greenland.

In addition to his passion for preaching and evangelism, George enjoys hunting and fishing, photography, wood working and metal working.  Joy enjoys reading, sewing, quilting, cooking and gardening.  She teaches children’s Bible classes and is an occasional speaker for ladies days. She also enjoys blogging on her journey-with-joy.com site.
